Like driving a car, things can be going along just fine and then “bam” you hit a bump in the road or run into a roadblock. Technology is exactly the same. You can be going along just fine and then “bam” you hit a bump or run into a roadblock. The bump and roadblock could be something as “I forgot how to do something” or “How do I do this” or “What’s going on” or “How do I fix this”? We all need help every now and then. You can take your car to an auto repair shop to get fixed, but where do you take yourself (when you can’t remember or don’t know how) to fix your computing problems? That’s where the Everyday Computing Help Desk comes in.
This Help Desk will be meeting the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Wednesday afternoons starting at 2:00 p.m. (except for the last one in November and December – holidays you know). But it’s possible it will have to be moved to Thursday afternoons, so check the calendars or watch your e-mails. Bring your problems, issues, questions and anything related to using a technology device for everyday computing to John and he (and maybe some others) will try and help you. This is for those computer, smartphone, and tablet users that have some experience using any of these devices (less experienced users will find a different Help Desk on another day). If we, unpaid volunteers, can’t answer your question or know how to do what you need, we’ll help you find the solution.
You can bring your own laptop (or use one of our classroom computers), smartphone, or tablet and get help directly on it, We run Windows 10 on our classroom computers (if you are a Linux user, we have a Help Desk for you on another day). We’ll also try to help you with any smartphone or tablet (iDevice or Android) problem you might have.
Come one time, come two times, or come every time. We’ll be glad to help you and maybe you can even help some of the others because you already know the answers to their questions. That’s what makes a Help Desk so great, members helping members.
